Dry Eye
Dry Eye is a chronic condition that can range from some minor irritation, to the increased risk of inflammation and eye infections. Ophthalmologists at OSM offer a variety of treatments for dry eye, depending on its severity.
Treatments can include:
- Lubricating eye drops
- Prescription eye drops
- Temporary or Permanent punctal occlusion
- Surgery to permanently close the ducts that drain tears to the nose to allow for more tears to remain in the eyes.
Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis, often referred to as “pink eye”, is an inflammation or swelling of the tissue that covers the white part of the eye. It can be caused by a virus (such as the common cold), bacteria, or allergies. Once your eye doctor determines the cause, they can recommend an appropriate treatment.
Itchy Eyes
While allergies can be a common cause of itchy eyes, it is important to determine the underlying reason and distinguish between allergies or an infection. Some other common causes can include dry eye syndrome, contact lenses or dermatitis. At OSM, physicians will conduct an examination and once a diagnosis is made, they will recommend an appropriate course of treatment.
When a medical condition indicates, they will refer the patient to the care of an appropriate ophthalmology specialist.
OSM physicians offer same day appointments for eye emergencies including corneal foreign bodies, eye infections, corneal abrasions, eyelid lacerations, and other ocular emergencies.
