Dr. Benjamin Reinherz joined Ophthalmic Specialists of Michigan as a retinal specialist in August 2019. After earning his medical degree from Florida’s Nova Southwestern University, where he graduated at the top of his class, he completed his residency training in Ophthalmology and served as chief resident at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in New York. Subsequently, he completed a two-year vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the Vitreoretinal Foundation – Eye Specialty Group in Tennessee. Dr. Reinherz is board certified in Ophthalmology by the American Osteopathic Association.

Dr. Reinherz has published multiple articles in peer reviewed journals, participated in macular degeneration research at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Florida, and was awarded a grant from the American Osteopathic Foundation for his humanitarian efforts in providing free eye surgery to underprivileged citizens in India. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retinal Specialists, American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, and the American Osteopathic Association.

Dr. Reinherz chose to pursue a career in vitreoretinal surgery to combine his interests in the eye and inspiration from his father who was a diabetic specialist of the foot and ankle. What Dr. Reinherz finds most rewarding in his career is helping patients preserve and restore their sight, while also helping them gain a better understanding of the conditions that affect their eyes.
When not treating patients, Dr. Reinherz enjoys swimming, playing basketball and spending time with his wife and four children. Dr. Reinherz speaks Hebrew and Spanish. His primary location is at OSM in Madison Heights and performs surgeries at the Livonia Outpatient Surgery Center.
